Printer
A printer is a device that creates tangible copies (paper copies) of digital documents or pictures. It is frequently used in conjunction with computers to print papers, photographs, or other visual material. Printers translate electronic data into printed information on paper or other media.
Printers come in a variety of styles, including inkjet printers, laser printers, thermal printers, dot matrix printers, and 3D printers. Inkjet printers generate pictures or text by spraying liquid ink onto paper. Laser printers use a laser beam to transfer toner onto paper, which is subsequently fused with heat. Thermal printers create pictures on specially coated paper by using heat. Dot matrix printers generate characters or images by connecting a number of tiny pins.Dot matrix printers make characters or graphics by hitting an ink ribbon on the paper using a sequence of little pins. Three-dimensional items are created by depositing material layer by layer in 3D printers.
| Impact Printers | Non-Impact Printers | |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanism | Physically strikes an inked ribbon against the paper | Utilizes inkjet nozzles or laser beams without physical contact |
| Printing Method | Presses pins or hammers onto an ink ribbon to transfer ink onto paper | Sprays ink droplets onto paper (inkjet) or uses laser technology to transfer toner onto paper (laser) |
| Noise Level | Produces noise due to mechanical impact | Generally quieter during operation |
| Print Quality | Lower print quality with dot-matrix output | Higher print quality with sharper text and the ability to print in color (inkjet) or high- resolution black and white (laser) |
| Suitable Applications | Used for multipart forms, invoices, receipts | Ideal for various printing needs including documents, photos, graphic |
